Mentoring System
This year, we introduce a paper mentor system into CCL for the first time. For each track, the area chair will invite reviewers with high academic level, rich writing experience and willingness to provide students with paper writing guidance as mentors for students who apply for mentoring in the area. We hope that this system can help students to improve the writing of academic papers and also improve the quality of papers in the conference to a certain extent.
The process, rules and schedule are as follows:
1. List of mentors released (April 20, 2020)
The program committee recommends at least five tutors for each area(track) of the conference . Each mentor will generally mentoring less than 3 articles. The list of tutors will be published on this page no later than April 20, 2020.
2. Application for paper guidance (April 20, 2020 to May 1, 2020)
Application steps:
(1)The student submits the paper through the START system and receive a submission ID;(2)After receiving the ID, the student fills a mentor application form online, providing the submission ID, submission track, title, abstract, author email, intended mentors and other information. Link to the application form will be released in this web page before April 20, 2020.
Things to note: (1)The first draft of a paper needs to be completed and submitted to the conference submission system before asking for guidance;(2)Each author can apply for guidance for only one paper;(3)Each paper can apply for up to 3 intended mentors in order of decreasing priority;(4)The submission track in the email title should be consistent with the track selected at the time of submission.
3. Paper to mentor matching (May 1, 2020 to May 7, 2020)
The mentor chair is responsible for the matching between the papers and mentors, assigning one mentor for each paper. After mentor assignment, the author will receive an email from the mentor chair, with the title CCL2020 - paper number - selection results. The text will contain the mentor's name and email.
Note that because there can be more than three applicant to each mentor, some authors may be assigned mentors other than their intended mentors, and the author may choose not to accept the assignment, In this case, the conference will not provide another mentor to the author (this is regarded as withdrwal);
4. Mentors providing guidance (May 8, 2020 to May 27, 2020)
The mentor will communicate with the author directly. In this stage, the author can continue to modify the paper according to the guidance, and upload the revised paper to the START system again before the submission deadline.
Things to note: (1)After finishing the mentor assignment stage, the mentor will conduct a preliminary review on the paper. After the preliminary review, the mentor has the right to refuse mentoring the paper if it is written with very low quality due to lack of care or has academic integrity problems. At this time, the mentoring process finishes early, and the author cannot apply for a different mentor again;(2)Under the double-blind review rules of this conference, the mentor will not review the papers they guide;(3) Co-authorship of the paper. The mentor will guide the writing of the paper and the design and analysis of the experiment. Generally, they will not sign their names. However, if there is any contribution to the core original idea of the paper that cannot be ignored, the co-authorship shall be determined by both the author and the mentor.
